Kong Ha Award 2010
The CAI-Asia Partnership shall be handing out the 2nd Kong Ha Award in conjunction with the Better Air Quality 2010 in Singapore this November 2010.
This two-yearly award was established by the CAI-Asia Partnership to honor the memory of the late Kong Ha, who served as the chairperson of the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) from December 2004 to April 2007.
The award serves as a tribute to persons who are responsible for the formulation of air quality management related policies and their day-to-day implementation in Asia. This, in the view of the CAI-Asia Partnership, is the best way to honor Kong Ha, who through his deep commitment and knowledge, relentless enthusiasm, and strong sense of partnership was a key person in shaping and overseeing the implementation of mobile source emission reduction policies in Hong Kong. The first Kong Ha Awardee was Mr. Shi Han Min, the Director of Environmental Protection Bureau for Beijing, China who received the award during the BAQ 2008 Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. The distinct award was given to Mr. Shi Han Min for his exemplary leadership in the effort towards cleaning up Beijing’s air quality in the context of the 2008 Olympic Games in China.
The search for the Kong Ha Award 2010 recipient is now open. Persons who are working on the formulation of air quality management policies and its day-to-day implementation, whether in mobile, stationary and area sources of pollution, are eligible for nomination. Potential awardees can come from local or national government, civil society or academic or research institutions in developing Asia. Candidates can be nominated by organizations or individuals. Self nominations will not be accepted. Please send your completed nomination form to baq2010@cai-asia.org with copy to sophie.punte@cai-asia.org before 31 August 2010.
